The Dangerous Days Of Daniel X

Excuse me for my inactivity recently. High School interferes a bit.
-----------------------------------------

Imagine that you are a kid. Now imagiane that everything was taken from you by a huge evil Mantis. That is what occurs in Daniel X's life. His father was a renown alien hunter, he scoured the globe hunting and recording aliens into his "List". The list was devoted to giving information about a particular alien on earth. Like a most wanted list. As the story goes on he hunts a couple of aliens down. His plan? To use the list he inherited from his father and take the aliens down, one by one. The Mantis is number one on the list. Hunting him may be the task of Daniel's life as you will later see.

All I can say is that it is for sure an awesome book . It's about finding the braveness to take on and move on with your life. Also maybe teach you a little about alien hunting.

" The Hobbit " By J.R.R Tolkien

This is truly an amazing book. I seriously treasure the time I had with this epic tail about bravery and coming out of your comfort zone to do what's right. Over the hills, lived a Hobbit. By the name of Bilbo Baggins. He was a tidy little fellow. His life was never exciting, particularly dull I should say, but not to the hobbit. One day when Bilbo was smoking his pipe on his doorstep, a wizard by the name of Gandalf arrived. he told him that he was the right person for a task he wouldn't say. Later on 13 dwarfs stumbled into his life that very day. Poor Bilbo was shaken. He had never expected such excitement!

Later on Bilbo was told that the dwarfs where planning on revenge to get their gold back from a ruthless dragon that lived in the mountains. They told of great riches of their ancestors. Also the fateful tale of the dragons carnage. Together, they were caught by goblins ( barely escaped), traversed far and wide into the gloomy depths of Mirkwood forest. There they met hazardous Elves and shape shifting creatures. Alas in the end of this epic journey they meet the dragon. I will not spoil this wonderful tale. But mind you, they meet their match with the mighty dragon of the horde.

" The Dead " By Charlie Higson.

This awesome book is a prequel to the deadly, " The Enemy". This story is truly an even of bravery and survival. It's Darwinian laws put to the test. Only now it involves inputting Humans into the equation. Filled with malicious zombies, heartbreaking sequences, and bloody massacres, this book is a riot. It is truly amazing on how the human spirit can survive. " The Dead" tells the story of groups of schoolboys on their trip to survive. Along the way they meet strange adults, strange leaders and death. Anyone over 16 is viewed as the " sickos". The sickness takes hold of one of them causing an insight to what they are really fighting for. If your over 16 you probably will turn into a flesh eating, bone crunching zombie. Fear escalates as the group finds themselves in the worst possible situation, A zombie horde the size of an army. The ending is quite surprising. Don't want to ruin it, but I will say this. The end of one book reflects another.

" King of the Screwups By K.L. Going

Did you ever have a day when you felt as if you screwed up in just about everything? Well Liam life is nothing but screwing up. He adds just the right amount to make everything topple down. Failure is what he probably made for. I really like the humor that is portrayed in the story. His mishaps become more then just mistakes. It's yet another lesson for his life. His Dad kicks him out of the house when he is caught with a girl. He has one talent though. Being "popular isn't really a talent" the people around him say, but with this dude, you can't go wrong.

You can almost connect with Liam as he messes up throughout. Reminds us all of the day when we couldn't get anything right.

OMG WE ARE GOING TO SLOWLEY DEGRADE MENTALLYYYYY

Recently I have received an email for the Brooklyn Public Library saying that since the government isn't providing enough funding, it may close. First thing I want to say is wow. It would be terrible to live without a library. The community needs it to educate itself. Take that away, and guess what you will have a dumb society. I have personally learned so many things from books than in real life sometimes. Books are the windows, portals, realms, dimensions, planes to everything AMAZING. The chances that you learned to read this post is probably from a LIBRARY book. Where do  you go to get help with topics that sometimes need some paper rather then Google, the LIBRARY.

So imagine it being closed. I wouldn't be able to write my reviews anymore. Well you would say hey there's Barnes and Noble for you! No, the truth is we can't afford every book that we want to or need to read. So your saying your going to buy a book every time you need maximum 5 facts from it? Utterly absurd in my view, should be in your too. So I have come with a plan that may help with the saving of our academic and entertaining sanctuary, give me your signature. Send me an email with your name and I will post your First name or anyway you want to be called and we will make a HUGE list of people to show the government why they should care more about us then fighting a pointless war.

So please post this into your facebook or chatroom and spread the word!
p.s. dont forget to read the book reviews coming soon!

" The Enemy " By Charlie Higson

After a horrible disease swarms over London, Children are faced with the living dead. The sickness that affected the people only affects adults. Children are left wandering through cities in search of help. Many of them meet the flesh eating zombies first. The story follows a young boy and a band of survivors living in an abandoned supermarket. Many casualties lie in the adults keen mind. No one is safe in this horrible nightmare. Arran and his band decide to go to the last sanctuary left, Buckingham palace. The palace is home to many refugee children, they all are under rule by a boy named David King ( ironic I know ), and he offers them a place to stay. Soon the band discovers that David has an obsession with leadership and the trust wavers dangerously.

Filled with grisly descriptions and deadly confrontations, this book is definitely one with fear. You don't be dissapointed with all the thrills the book has in store for you.

" The Supernaturalist" By Eoin Colfer

In a place called Satellite City, thirteen-year-old Cosmo Hill is unfortunate enough to come into the world unwanted by his parents. He is unwanted by his parents, not so unusual in Satellite City. He is like most orphan children ( at least the ones that can't hide) is sent to Clarissa Frayne Institute for Parentally Challenged Boys. There he is like a test specimen for different creams, ointments and toxic vats. None of which should be around humans. His heart dreams of the day when he can get free of the Institute, but he still isn't sure of what he might accomplish outside

His escape becomes possible, when an orphan truck delivering orphans to facilities crashes. He makes a run for it. Jumping off a roof he almost dies, getting electrocuted. But rescued by a eccentric group of orphans known as the Supernaturalists. Moments away from death he survives, but when he wakes up he realizes his scars, both mental and physical. Also the supernatural parasites that almost kills him. Will he learn to live with these rebels?

" SwordBird " By Nancy Yi Fan

The wings fluttter violently claws scratched open air.  The mid-air battle ensues, leaving dastardly marks on the birds. Swordbird tells the story of tribe like groups of cardinals and bluejays and their fight for survival against the vindictive hawk and the raven minion. Swordbird is a supernatural legend which is what the story is suspended on. The main character ( I should say bird) is a white unamed dove like bird who is the feathery protagonist. His goal is to stop the evil Turnatt, which enslaves all those weaker then him. The bluejays and the cardinals team together in efforts to defeat Turnatt's tyranny. The only hope that the birds have is Swordbird, son of the Great Spirit.

I enjoyed this delightful fantasy because of it's diverse characters and also in light of what the book was inspired by.Nancy wrote Swordbird because of the turmoil of emotions that were connected to the 9/11 attacks. She decided to write a book showing the importance of family friends and hope. Truly an amazing book, even written by a 11 year old girl.

" Rash " By Pete Huatman

Let's say your parents make you go outside to do something active besides sit on the computer all day staring at flashing pixels. You go outside and call your friends. Get your football out and start pla-y WAIT THAT'S ILLEGAL.  You decide you don't feel like football. You start running WAIT DO YOU HAVE YOUR PROTECTION? KNEE PADS ELBOW PADS. Wow, that would be one miserable life to live wouldn't it? someon breathing down your neck telling you you can't do this or that or even that. That is the setting in which the main character of Rash is living in. Bo Marsten, a typical everyday teenager in the new USSA ( United Safe States of America). He abides all rules and sometimes laughs at his grandpa's rants about how back in the 2000's life was much simplier and you didn't get life in jail for doing a misdemeanor.

One day when a rival of Bo pisses him off and gets into a fight. His whole view on his nation takes a dive into reality. He is sentenced to manual labor in the freezing Canadian tundra. Away from his comfortable home, he faces polar bears, a harsh psychotic football fanatic and worst of all : facing reality.

" To Kill a Mockingbird" By Harper Lee

Many themes of predujice and social identity are presented in this novel. ( Is it me or do I sound like an essay?) anyway. Maycomb, Alabama during the great depression. Kind of dreary and boring old town. Typical small town gossipers. Main character is a small innocent girl named Scout. Her father is the all knowing Atticus, which stands apart from the typical town folks. Jem is Scout's brother. Town gossip was like a fever. It hit everywhere in the small town. In a strange house near Scout's a strange being lived. Named Boo Radley, he was a strange figure in the gossip. He was said to look like a zombie like man, 6 feet tall and white as paper. Scout's fantasy's ran wild. Later on in the turning point of the story, Tom Robinson a young African American, was accused for raping a white woman. No evidence was found besides the woman's father, who was an illiterate hilly billy. Atticus fights for him but with no avail. The racist jury had an inevitable answer because of the man's color.

After the womans father realizes that he is losing, he spits in Atticu's face after the court. Atticus took it in without a hint of fury. Revenge strikes once but fails.

" Dark Dude " By Oscar Hijuelos

Provacative, yet understandable, Dark Dude tells a first person narration story of a young cuban kid with white skin. His troubles never seem to end with him living in the worst part of Bronx. Rico Fuentes, a geeky, comic-book-loving, Huckleberry Finn-reading and Irish-looking Cuban teenager who lives in New York. He sees a new light in his desperate chance to get away from his life in the Bronx. He decides to go to a farm in Wisconsin, with the threats of military camp from his father behind him. He settles in quiet nicely with the white folks who are oblivious to his secret. His departure leaves him with questions about himself and trying to find his identity in himself. Which part should he join? His Latino roots or his distant Irish ones.

Dilemmas are present in every way in this book. Running away from your problems may not be the best thing as it turns out in Dark Dude. A very interesting story indeed. The emotions that Rico has are sometimes hard to understand as if he try's to hide them from the reader? Anyway would recommend.

" Epic " by Conor Kostick

Truly an "epic" story, the book has some awesome stuff indeed. Imagiane yourself in a world where your life is centered on  game called Epic. Even adults play it. Now imagine that the ONLY way to make it big was to defeat the best players in the game. Erik lives that life, sounds very enticing with all the fantasy games out there. But only problem is that almost everything is decided on the game. Economy for one thing, oh did I tell you that if you got into a fight you could be sent to life in jail in REAL LIFE?. His father was one of those people sent  to jail because of a rage. Choose your squabbles wisely if you lived there that's for sure. Erik's goal is one day to defeat Central Locations, aka the best clan of players, and free his dad and many other innocent prisoners.. If he wins , by any chance, he will move on to be the best and join the prestigious league. Along the way he finds that with a little help from his friends ( God that is overused) he defeats a DRAGON. Yea that's right it's one of the hardest damn NPC'S to kill in the game. He accumulates riches and gains interest from the infamous Central Locations. Erik states a challenge and the fight begins.

Tale of the victory spreads far and wide and local districts have theier hopes raise and pretty soon everyone wants to challenge CA. Getting nervous of the new demands, CA decides to secretly sabotage Erik and his friends sea voyage which they undertake for the promise of hidden treasures. Tratious behavior ensues. Im not going to tell you the end of the book, but one clue is an EPIC battle takes place which will change the fate of everyone in the game, including people in real life......

"Litte Brother" By Cory Doctorow

This book inspires a little of a rebellious feeling when you read the first few chapters. Every sense of privacy is destroyed when the  Bay Bridge in San Francisco is blown up by terrorists. Marcus the main character is a carefree kind of sneaky teenager. Him and his friends decide to take a break from school, in other words he cuts. Marcus  devises a plan to fool the school’s camera systems that track a certain person’s gait. Slipping in some pebbles from the front of the school him and his friend break the recognition code and run off. Successfully cutting, Marcus and his friend head out to the mall to hang out with his friends. During the meet up they play a Japanese LARPing( live action role playing game) which requires them to run around the area and search for clues.  Suddenly the ground tremors and Homeland Security swarms over innocent people going off to work.  Marcus’s friend gets stabbed brutally during the mob rush and  they all break away to sit on a curb. Chaos reins around them as they try to understand what is happening. Marcus desperately tries to hail a army hummer in front of them when militia soldiers jump out and kidnap them. They are taken to a island where they are brutally interrogated by a mysterious group of people.
Marcus and his friends are suspicious that it is the terrorists them selves, but on later they find out that their kidnappers are really the Homeland Security.

The world suddenly crashes around Marcus as they make him give in his treasured pass words into every thing he had. With a sense of vengeance they set him free with two other friends. The story then is revolved on Marcus trying to get his friend out of the prison. Marcus then creates an alternate identity on a network of hackers called Paranoid Xbox. He names himself M1lk3y, causing an uprising in teen tech rebellion. Secrets are kept from parents, the network is the last possible privacy teenagers have with the Homeland Security checking everyone and convicting everyone of crimes they haven’t committed. New jamming systems are created within the community as they try to fight the HS. Countless people are arrested and interrogated. So throughout the story, the constitution itself is being argued, from when security should have the line drawn. An amazing book for all ages. Sparks a whole new mentality to our U.S. government. Are these the people we want protecting us?
Exotix rating 5 out of 5 Perfect.
